Four of our favourite things about North Yorkshire

Our Notes

Four of our favourite things about North Yorkshire

As an area that includes 554 square miles of national park, it goes without saying that there is plenty to discover in North Yorkshire, whether you’re planning a day out with the family or keen to explore the hills by yourself. To help you start planning your next escape, we’ve picked some of our favourite things to see and do during your stay.

Breathtaking views

There are an abundance of fantastic spots overlooking the North York Moors that will have you reaching for your camera. The Vale of York and Vale of Mowbray offer some of the most spectacular views in the area, so much so that Sutton Bank (where they are located) is often referred to as ‘England’s finest’ view.

The Hole of Horcum is another location boasting a beautiful viewpoint, and according to local legend, the natural amphitheatre was formed when Wade the Giant scooped up a handful of earth during an argument with his wife.

Stunning Coastline

Boasting picturesque fishing villages, sandy beaches, and rugged cliffs, the natural beauty of the North Yorkshire coast is truly spectacular. There are many sandy beaches and secluded coves to discover, providing plenty of rockpooling opportunities for the little ones. Plus, if youjust so happen to be a dinosaur fanatic then you’re in luck, as the coastline is brimming with Jurassic fossils and dinosaur footprints.

Starry night skies

Away from the bright lights of the towns and cities, you will quickly discover why North Yorkshire is considered one of the best places in the country for stargazing, wherein some of the darkest areas, it’s possible to catch a glimpse of up to 2,000 stars at once. There are several dark sky discovery sites including The Moors National Park Centre and Sutton Bank National Park Centre where breathtaking stargazing is guaranteed on a clear night.

Surf ready waves

As you may already be aware surfing is an incredibly popular pastime on the North Yorkshire Coast. If it’s your first time riding the waves we’d recommend a trip to Saltburn-by-the-Sea, where easier waves can be discovered either side of the pier. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, then it would be worth visiting Sandsend, a slightly quieter spot that promises fantastic waves.

As the winner of a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, we promise that you will experience the very best of true Yorkshire hospitality during your stay with us. Ready to start planning your North Yorkshire getaway? Explore our selection of individually styled rooms, perfect for indulgent relaxation after a day of exploring.

COVID-19 Update

Following the latest Government COVID-19 update, Ryedale and North Yorkshire have moved into Tier 3 and therefore we have had to temporarily close the hotel until further notice. We are still serving takeaway Sunday lunches - if you would like to order please call 01751 472288. Many thanks.
