North Yorkshire Moors Railway
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is Britain's most popular heritage railway. Its steam locomotives run from the now expertly restored station, just a short stroll from The White Swan.
Railway enthusiasts will not want to miss seeing the finest working collection of steam locomotives anywhere - Sir Nigel Gresley, Blue Peter, Hartland and many more. Travel back in time and enjoy an 18-mile trip through stunning countryside.
The journey from the railway station of Pickering will take you to Grosmont near Whitby, taking in the beautiful North York Moors National Park. (It is possible to take a connecting train into Whitby.) Buying a Day Rover ticket will give you the opportunity to explore the en-route stations of Levisham and Goathland (Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat series), as well as the woodland walks accessible from the track. North Yorkshire Moors Railway season is from March to November and Pullman dining services and special events, such as "The Santa Express" feature in the programme. Click here for events.
