Test your nerves! Make the North Yorkshire Moors National Park your velodrome for some of the most spectacular forest moorland and downhill stages in the country.

There are various routes nearby to cater for everyone's abilities with some challenging rides for adventurous bikers. Dalby Forest within the North York Moors National Park has got some of the best mountain bike routes in the country that you can ride to straight from the hotel.

Don't overlook the combination of riding a train and bike. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (tel: 01751 472508) has three routes using their steam trains for the outward journey. There is, for example, Newtondale Halt to Levisham Station, with an opportunity to see the amazing gorge of Newtondale. The advantage here is that, when you get back to Pickering railway station you are just a gentle pedal away from a luxurious soak at The White Swan before a delicious meal.
