A Garden Lovers Break

| Posted in Special Offers

Our corner of North Yorkshire is fabulous for so many varied reasons – the breath taking scenery of the coast and moors, great old fashioned hospitality and not least the varied attractions on our doorstep, all of which make it a superb choice for spending a few days away.

If you can escape for 48hrs here’s some inspiration for the ultimate garden lovers break. We all love a grand house & a beautiful garden and it’s rare treat for us to have so many right on our doorstep, this break will allow you to meander through the best.

Arrive; if your route to us takes you through Helmsley how about a quick peek in at The Walled Garden.  In the shadow of the medieval castle it is part of the Duncombe Park estate and is sure to set the tone for a relaxing couple of days.  If you reach the White Swan in time for a cup of tea then enjoy it in our cosy bar or if the sun is shining on the Bothy Terrace & if it is tipple time then a glass of something chilled and refreshing before supper in our relaxed candlelit restaurant.

Day two; we guarantee on a gorgeous summers day wherever you chose to visit it will take your breath away.  Here’s a few of our suggestions …

Vanbrugh’s Castle Howard – One of England’s beautiful houses most discover the magnificent 18th century residence set within 1,000 acres of breathtaking landscape in the Howardian Hills in its full glory. If you ask at reception before you leave we can make you a saving on admission with our advance tickets.

Yorkshire Arboretum – a glorious 120 acre garden of trees from around the world set in a stunning landscape of parkland, lakes and ponds on the Castle Howard Estate

Scampston Walled Garden – A stunningly beautiful four acre contemporary garden, quite unlike any other. Designed by the renowned Dutch plantsman, Piet Oudolf. Perfect for casual garden lovers as well as plant-obsessed gardeners. We offer advance purchase tickets with a small saving for here too!

Rievaulx Abbey – if you are searching for peace and tranquility this is the perfect place for you. Looking across the valley to this medieval ruin is magical.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway – Ok, so it’s not a house nor  garden but it is too spectacular to leave out – step back in time and ride on the lovingly restored heritage railway you will wind your way through the Moors’ finest scenery.

When you have soaked it all in we await your return with a complimentary tea or coffee before supper.

Day three; hopefully by the end of your visit you’ll want to return to your own gardens inspired and itching to get those green fingers occupied so why not call in at Rogers Nurseries, Pickering, on your way home where the expert staff will be on hand with their tips and advice.

So what are you waiting for! Book your break now. Dinner, bed and breakfast starts at £209 per room, per night.

SAVE - we can offer you reduced price admission tickets to Castle Howard House & Gardens and Scampston Garden & Grounds, just pick up your tickets at reception before you go.

Come on an Adventure!

Climb a hill, swim in the sea, eat in the forest?

Microadventure

Do you feel that you need a recharge of fresh air and fun – is it time for a microadventure?  Grab a friend, a love or a child or all three and come and explore God’s Own County – away from the complicated confusion and stress of modern life!

We’ve put together just a few suggestions for a true escape with some excitement thrown in and we’ve got plenty more ideas up our sleeve, you just need to ask.

1. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is literally on our doorstep – jump on the steam train for one stop and find yourself smiling in one of the most beautiful, wild landscapes this country has.  Relax, walk, talk in peace – but above all soak it in & it comes at no extra cost!

2. The only Blue Flag awarded beaches in Yorkshire are within thirty minutes’ drive of Pickering – we can pack you a picnic – maybe even one for breakfast and arrive before everyone else – swim in the sea, enjoy a little warmth on your face & sand between your toes.

3. We all love Dalby Forest and what is not to love about 8,000 acres of woodland ready to explore & enjoy just two miles from us.  Whether you want to hire bikes to get some adrenalin going on the 55 miles of cycle trails they have, light a barbecue for lunch, swing from the tree tops (Junior & Senior) options or even hunt for a Gruffalo then this is the perfect place.

After all that excitement head back to the hotel and tuck into an impossibly hearty dinner before sinking into the comfiest of beds.

Discover how restorative a microadventure can be – give us a call - 01751 472288, book online or email welcome@white-swan.co.uk  for the best rates and book your stay.

PLUS … early birds who book before Monday 9th June will get a picnic on us!* All you have to do is mention this post when you book.

We look forward to welcoming you!
